It is New Year’s Eve and I can honestly say that I look forward with hope for 2019. You might question my sanity since I talked about depression and grief during the holiday season. I tell you quite simply that I can look forward with hope because I looked back over the year 2018 and reviewed the good and positive events in my life.
I have found that New Year’s resolutions don’t work for me. Instead, this year I decided to look at my achievements and growth. What am I most proud of? What helps me feel satisfied with my life? Most importantly, how can I get more of what I want in life?
Almost most three years ago, I set my mind to becoming an author with the idea of sharing my life to help other people. I reached out to a life coach who was already an author with the added advantage of having been my therapist in years past. The result of the coaching is this blog site, a skeleton outline of my first book and a blossoming desire to become a public speaker.
I want to continue to grow my career in writing and speaking. My hope is to have my first book published within six months. While I am working toward those goals, I will be actively finding ways to grow our community for this site.
It is my belief that each and every one of us has value to add to our world. My hope in the new year is to help members of this community understand their unique value. Those of us who hurt deeply also love deeply, those who suffer understand compassion, those who are depressed understand laughter and happiness.
My challenge for you is to review the year 2018 and find the good and positive events. It doesn’t matter if it seems like a small thing, use it anyway. Then define what you would like to have more of in the new year. Is it more love, laughter, success at work or something else? Decide to build on whatever success you have had and you will be able to find hope in the New Year.
